The Dark Tether Launcher is the front door to everything we make. It is a free desktop application for Windows that downloads our games, keeps them updated automatically, and gathers your whole Dark Tether library in one place. If you have ever juggled loose installers, hunted for the latest patch of an adult game across forum threads, or wondered whether the build you have is even current, the launcher exists to make all of that a non-problem.
This guide covers what the Dark Tether Launcher does, how it fits together with the subscription, and why we built our catalog around it.
What the Dark Tether Launcher Does
The launcher has one job with three parts, and it does them without ceremony:
- Download. Install any of our games directly through the launcher instead of chasing separate installers. One application, one place to get everything.
- Auto-update. Games in active development change fast, and several of ours are in early access. The launcher keeps your installed games current automatically, so the version you launch is the version we most recently shipped.
- Library. Your Dark Tether games live together in one organized home. See what you have, see what we offer, and get into a game without spelunking through folders.
That is the whole pitch. No bloat, no store you did not ask for, no social feed. A small tool that makes owning our games frictionless.
Why a Launcher Matters for Early Access Games
Auto-updating is convenient for any game, but for early access titles it changes the experience entirely. Games like Echoes of Midnight and Bondage Cafe are living projects: new features, new interactions, fixes, and content arrive on an ongoing basis, and we document every change on our dev blog. Without a launcher, every one of those updates would be a manual chore, and most players would end up running stale builds without knowing it.
With the launcher, updates simply happen. You read about a new feature in a changelog, open your library, and it is already there. Multiplayer games benefit doubly, since everyone staying current means everyone can actually play together.
One Subscription, the Whole Catalog
The launcher pairs with the simplest business model we could come up with: one membership includes all of our games. Support us through Patreon or SubscribeStar via the subscribe page, and the entire catalog is yours, from the post-apocalyptic dungeon sim Chains of Bondage to the multiplayer dungeon of Bondage Cafe and the idle bordello of Dungeon Empire.
This model shapes how the launcher feels in practice. There are no per-game purchases to track and no editions to compare. Your library is not a receipt of past transactions. It is a menu, and everything on it is included. When we release something new, it is included too. Our upcoming auto-battler roguelite Moonlight Mayhem is coming to the launcher, and members will find it the same way they found everything else: sitting in the library, ready to install.
Getting Started in Three Steps
Setting up is deliberately short:
- Get the launcher. It is free and available for Windows from our launcher page.
- Set up your membership. Choose Patreon or SubscribeStar on the subscribe page. One subscription, every game.
- Install and play. Browse the library, download what appeals to you, and let the launcher handle staying current from then on.
From that point forward, your only ongoing responsibility is deciding what to play, which is exactly how much friction a game library should have.
Honest Answers to Reasonable Questions
Is the launcher itself free? Yes. The launcher costs nothing. The membership is what unlocks the games it delivers.
Do I need it to keep games updated? It is the way our games are downloaded and updated, and with several titles in active development, staying current genuinely matters. Running the launcher means never wondering whether you missed a patch.
What platforms does it support? The launcher and our games are built for Windows.
Why not just sell games individually? Because we are a small indie studio shipping multiple evolving games, and a single membership plus a launcher lets players move freely across the whole catalog while we keep everything improving. The subscription funds development; the launcher makes sure you always have what you are funding.
The Dark Tether Launcher is not glamorous, and it is not supposed to be. It is the quiet piece of infrastructure that makes the rest of our catalog feel effortless. Install it once, subscribe once, and every game we make finds its way to you.
