The Best Adult Roguelites and Auto-Battlers

Adult roguelites barely existed a few years ago. Then Vampire Survivors rewired the industry's understanding of how much fun one joystick and zero buttons could be, and adult developers took notes. The genre is still young on the 18+ side, but the best adult roguelites already show why the fit is so natural: short runs, constant progression, and hands that stay busy while the screen rewards you. Here is the current state of the field, including our own upcoming entry, disclosed plainly below.

Roguelites and auto-battlers, explained fast

A roguelite is built on runs: you play until you die, lose the run, and keep permanent upgrades that make the next attempt stronger. An auto-battler in the Vampire Survivors mold takes that loop and removes the attack button entirely. Your weapons fire on their own, so your job is movement: dodge the horde, collect experience, and draft upgrades that stack into something absurd by the end of a run. The loop is simple, legible, and vicious about your free time. Adult developers noticed that the formula leaves attention to spare, and the genre grew from there.

Moonlight Mayhem

Full disclosure first: this one is ours, and it is upcoming rather than released, so treat this as a preview instead of a review. Moonlight Mayhem is our Vampire Survivors-style auto-battler roguelite starring three voiced chibi heroines: Luna with her homing Magic Wand, Sera calling down Storm Call lightning, and Mei burning through the horde with Holy Water. Weapons fire automatically while you dodge, collect XP gems, and draft upgrades, with six weapons, six passives, and weapon evolutions to chase. Gold drops from golden elite enemies, and the Vampire Countess arrives as a boss every two minutes to check whether your build is honest. It runs at any aspect ratio and is coming to the free Dark Tether Launcher for Windows.

Sexy Mystic Survivors

A straightforward adult take on the bullet heaven formula: hordes, upgrades, escalating chaos, and explicit rewards as you progress. It does not reinvent anything, and it does not need to. If you want Vampire Survivors with an 18+ payoff available today, this is the established option.

Crimson Keep

An adult first-person dungeon crawler with roguelite structure: descend, die, learn, and descend again. It predates the auto-battler wave and plays nothing like Vampire Survivors, but it remains one of the more distinctive attempts at run-based adult design.

What to watch as the genre grows

The SFW side of the genre keeps generating ideas the adult side can adapt. Vampire Survivors established the template, and games in its wake, like Brotato and 20 Minutes Till Dawn, keep proving how far the formula stretches with new mechanics and structures. Expect adult developers to keep borrowing what works. The open question is depth: adult games have historically leaned on content as the reward, and roguelites live or die on whether the moment-to-moment build decisions stay interesting for run after run. The projects that treat the game half as seriously as the adult half will define this genre.

Following along

We are building Moonlight Mayhem in the open, and we post real progress with real changelogs on our dev blog as development moves. If auto-battlers are your genre, that is the best place to watch an adult one come together piece by piece, from weapon evolutions to boss tuning.

Adult roguelites are young, hungry, and improving fast. Get in now and you can watch the genre grow up in real time.
